Historical
Sifnos is not just a popular summer destination but also a beautiful Greek island with a long history. Four Ancient Mycenaean Acropoles adorn the land of Sifnos. The acropolis of Agios Andreas is one of the most important archaeological sites on the island. Its name derives from the church that stands there. It has a truly breathtaking view and boasts a museum at the entrance.
The Acropolis of Agios Nikitas lies in the Seladi region, in the north part of Apollonia. It has a beautiful view of the Aegean, but the access is not easy. The Acropolis of The Castle is located on the southeast side of Sifnos, and its findings are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Sifnos. Lastly, the Acropolis of Prophet Elias is settled in the Troullaki region and dates back to the 6th century.
Sifnos is also wealthy in museums. Suppose you want to explore the island's past and culture a little deeper. In that case, you can visit the Archaeological Site of Agios Andreas, the Folklore Museum of Apollonia, the Museum of Religious Art at the Vrysi Monastery, the Museum of Pottery, or Archaeological Museum of Sifnos in Kastro.
